When our family discovered this six-acre estate in Escondido, the vines were already rooted here. I immediately fell in love with the property’s beauty and saw an opportunity to bring together my passions for people, animals, and wine.
That vision became Cheval Winery. Cheval means “horse” in French, inspired by my lifelong love of horses and the animals who bring warmth and character to life here. The name reflects our connection to nature, companionship, and the simple pleasure of being together.
Today, Cheval invites you to slow down and savor the moment. Enjoy our wines among the vines, meet the animals, and take in the peaceful beauty of the estate. Whether you’re celebrating or simply escaping for a leisurely afternoon, we hope you’ll leave with wonderful memories—and a longing to return.

Donna Kaufman never imagined she’d own a winery, but couldn’t be happier with her exciting new venture. Donna has been showing horses for over 20 years and was on the hunt for the perfect location to build stables when she stumbled upon this hidden gem on Hill Valley Drive. It was love at first sight the moment she stepped onto the property. Donna’s passion for her winery is unmeasurable and she looks forward to welcoming all who visit!

Francisco Robles has been caring for our precious vines for over a decade since they were first planted in the ground. He plays a key role in the quality of our grapes & production of our fine varietals. Francisco is on the estate every day so be sure to say hello if you see him!
